Who Are The Friends?
The Friends of the Library (FOL) is an organization that supports the library, its mission,
and its programs. We do this through raising funds, encouraging use of the library,
advocating for the library, organizing programs for the library, and assisting the library
staff with library events. Membership is open to all individuals. Specifics about membership
and FOL activities can be found by navigating through our links on the left sidebar.
People join FOL to support the library and to have fun with people of similar interests. The
Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library is an award-winning institution,
and it is
the hub for cultural activities
in
Alpena.
The Friends offer members many different ways
to participate and many levels
of
participation. In fact,
it is not necessary to volunteer at all;
your membership funds will
be
used wisely to keep the library a
vibrant place. (See the link
“What We Do” to see how
membership funds were used in the past years.)
For those with
more time, it is an
opportunity to participate in activities that interest you—with a group
of Friends. So, do you : Like discussing books?
there’s Book Talk;
Like reading to
children?
there’s
Grandma Bear; Like parties? there’s the summer
carnival…
FOL is all about how
you can help keep
your library a vibrant place
for the community
while having fun with
a “society of friends in support of
the arts
and humanities.”
Who are Friends?
It can be you! JOIN and make a positive impact on your
community.
