Greg Mortenson, author of the New York Times best seller, Three
Cups of Tea
, is coming to Alpena in the fall. Who is this gentle giant?
Mortenson's story is compelling, even riveting, showing how one man,
one step at a time, can make a monumental shift in countles lives.
Before he comes to Alpena, attend a background presentation.

PRESENTER: Mike Olsen has been in education for 23 years and has
taught/lived in both Japan and Saudi Arabia. He is currently a counselor
at Alpena High School.

The Poetry of Billy Collins by Billy Collins

PRESENTER: Anne Heraghty will be talking about one of her favorite
writers, poet Billy Collins. Anne writes poetry herself and stays busy
submitting work to a variety of publications. She is currently editor of
Alpena Fifty-Two magazine, an online publication about what's
happening in Alpena.

Vengeful Hymns by Marc Sheehan

PRESENTERS: Joe Bastow dissects Michigan Native Marc
Sheehan's latest book, Vengeful Hymns. An M.F.A. candidate in
2010 and an English instructor of twelve years, Bastow has written and
published his own poetry in Curbside Review, The Real M, and
Whispers from the Unseen.
His discussion will salute Michigan poets
specifically and entertain the notion of contemporary poetry.

The Eight by Katherine Neville

The Eight focuses on a New York City computer specialist who finds
herself used as a pawn in a worldwide chess game that takes readers
from the time of Charlemagne to 1972.

PRESENTERS: Ellen LaCross is an Alpena native who is an avid
reader. She is actively involved in the arts community as a member of
the Thunder Bay Arts Chorus and as treasurer of the Northeast
Michigan Artists Guild.
